Good morning with a word for the day-
Unity and peace are foundational truths of the gospel. Jesus gives us an example of the importance of these two things in Matthew 18:15-20. It talks about how to handle sin against you and a fellow believer.
‘Unity’ can be simply stated as unity or like I call it, just plain ole getting along. The opposite is division. It is one of Satan's greatest tools, and he uses it very well. Jesus discusses sin between believers in Matthew 8:15-20. He says go alone first, just between the two of you. If that does not work, then take one or two along to discuss it again, if there is still no resolution, the third step would be to take the issue before the church. Why? Because unless there is unity prayers are hindered. If you forgive your brethren God will forgive you. Remember it says in Matthew 6:14-15, “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 18:18 says, “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven. Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.” In the case above regarding problems between believers, God can answer what they are asking only if they have settled the issue between the two of them.
Most problems according to God's Word can be solved. But we must realize the cost of not being willing to solve the problem. Sometimes it's as simple as agreeing not to agree, but still be friends, and other times it's as simple as saying I was wrong. Either way I must settle the issue. My love for someone else must be bigger than any problem or any issue. Love conquers all things. Agreeing to keep the peace and unity is just saying you're more important to me that anything else. I need you in my life.
1 Peter 4:8 says, “Love will cover a multitude of sins.”
