Good morning with a word for the day-
Hebrews 13:6 says, “So we may boldly say: ‘The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?’”
When we see the scriptures like this, we must remember that they teach us about the love of God. Can men hurt us? The answer is yes. Many times those who have hurt and scared us don't even know they have done so. Hurt comes in many forms, such as words that cut deep within our soul and then take root as bitterness, damaged self-confidence, or a damaged self-image and worth. Words cut deep and leave nasty scars. Hurt can also be in the form of abandonment. We trusted or loved someone, and for whatever reason, they have abandoned us. Again, we are hurt. It leaves us unable to fully trust or fully live again, without the fear of getting hurt all over again. It leaves us feeling alone and introverted. The truth of the matter is, that we don't even trust or love ourselves because we don't feel worthy to be loved, which opens us up to many other things. This verse did not say man could not do something to us. It says that God will not hurt us. Even when God corrects us, He does it from true love. Meaning, unlike man, God values our trust and our love towards Him. He will protect and honor that trust and love. It means I can place my full trust and love in Him, knowing He will never hurt me with words or abandonment. “He will not leave you, nor forsake you,” it says in Deuteronomy 31:6. True love never inflicts pain. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 describes true love like this; “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” Verse 8 says, “Love never fails.”
How can I trust God to never hurt me? Because 1 John 4:17 says, “Love is of God.” It's beyond His ability to hurt us because He first loved us.
Trust in the only One who will always love you.
