Good morning with a word for the day-
In 2 Kings 6:1-7, we find an amazing story: The sons of the prophets were building a new dwelling, that would also be used as a school. During construction, the head of a young man’s ax flew from its handle and landed in the water. The iron quickly sank to the bottom. The ax was a borrowed ax, so the young man became very concerned about it.
There is so much we can learn from this short story. First, these men were busy building a school where the men could be taught the word of God. Oh, how important is that message today, as we see the evacuation of the church for every reason under the sun? A preacher said the other day that the church was in the greatest decline in its history of the church. We must ask ourselves a question: How important is the Word of God? The Bible says Christ died for the church. Here, these men were willing to put their energy toward their desire. They were willing to put forth the effort to build a place to be taught the Word of God so that they might go out to teach others to do the same. A church is most definitely not a perfect place, but it's the only place that we should want to be, and especially to be a part of. Does it have its problems? The answer is ‘yes.’
Notice the rest of the story. When the ax head was lost, out of sight, and hope was lost, the one they turned to was the man of God, who represented the Word of God. As they worked on the place for God (church), then God returned to them what was lost.
Maybe the message we can learn from these few verses is: If we would return to church, God would return to us what's been lost.
Sadly, unlike this young man who knew something had been lost, today, most are unaware that they have lost anything.
Hebrews 10:25
